Smashbox On The Rocks Op Eyeshadow Luxe Palette Review

I had my eye on this palette for a really long while now and when I finally got to go to Newcastle I rushed into Boots and got me the last one left. I might be uploading a Newcastle Haul soon; which will include this gorgeous limited edition palette as well. Such a shame I wasn’t able to get the smaller one, too.. But today, I’m reviewing this palette for you guys.

Now let me start raving over the packaging; it is absolutely gorgeous. I love the way they made the packaging black with the silver and rainbow reflecting diamonds on top of it. The packaging opens and closes in a very fancy way, as well; it opens and closes with a magnet. It’s very thick and sturdy and when opened you will find a nice mirror which is on the bigger side.

Marzipan, Midas, Ambient, Zoom, Totally Nude, Cream, Juniper, Fizz, Roast, Sumatra, Sable, Purple Mist, Lavender, Pastel, Peacock, Navy, Sapphires, Lilac, Snow, Gypsy, Royal, Asteroid, Moonlight, Smoke, Babycakes, Framboise, Mink and Cabernet.

Now this palette includes 28 colours, all very mixed and different. You get your nudes, pinks, blues, greens, glitters, shimmers, mattes and everything in between. This palette brings a lot of variety and I think you can create endless looks with it, from very festive to neutral, from day to evening and from dark to pastel.

The shadows themselves are very soft, smooth and buttery as expected from a higher-end palette. One of the shadows stood out to me; it was very rough, patchy and hard to apply. It was the white glittery shade, Moonlight, which was quite a shame as it would’ve been very pretty. Of course there was a lot of glitter but I own a similar colour by The Balm from the Nude’Tude palette and that one is very lovely and buttery with a lot of pigment. Moonlight barely showed up on the swatches (no primer), as well.

The pigment of these shadows is amazing, they gilde on so well and I’m so happy with them. I especially love that taupe colour on the left below, Sable. It’s such a lovely crease/transition colour.
Now I do think this misses a few brighter colours, which were available in their smaller mini size palette which sadly enough I didn’t get my hands on. 😦
I hope they’ll bring out more palettes like this, I’m definitely a fan!
